ECO™ by Cosentino Colours now available at MARBLEX!

Posted on August 16, 2012 By marblex

ECO™ by Cosentino  is  a world leader in the production and distribution of quartz, natural stone and recycled surfaces. They have recently launched a new range of colours for ECO™ by Cosentino, a recycled surface product comprising 75% recycled materials.

Did you know that ECO™ by Cosentino recycles materials that have reached the end of their life cycle, which saves on the consumption and creation of the world’s natural resources? Most of the raw materials used in the creation of ECO™ by Cosentino are glass, mirror, porcelain, stone scraps and corn, yes corn! Corn is used to compile an eco-friendly resin using 22% of its composition coming from vegetable origin, mainly corn.

The colours are available in two collections the  “Green Collection” composed of 75% post-industrial recycled raw materials; collected and recycled after industrial processes and the “Revive Collection” composed of  75% post-consumer recycled raw materials; collected and recycled after consumer use and after inclusion in consumer products.

Latest Trends in Countertops

Posted on August 09, 2012 By marblex

Countertops today have a sense of style and creativity. While countertop material and color a few years ago used to be chosen practically, safely and with resale in mind, today’s hottest trends in countertop choices are going more for color, different type of textures as well as patterns. Mixing of materials, colors and textures has also become very popular which ad a more personal touch. Eco-friendly materials remain hot, as do nature-inspired palettes, and return on investment remains another key trend.

Below are some of the latest trends in countertops and surfacing materials.

  • Granite, quartz, solid surfaces and laminates are still very popular,  the ability to personalize consumer spaces use an array of choices that range from marble, limestone,  concrete, stainless steel, glass, ceramic and paper.

  • Countertops are showing more texture. In natural stone there are many different finishes and textures such as honed, leathered, antiquated, patina, sand blasted and flamed to name a few. Designs can range from monochromatic subtle tones that mimic the earthy tones of nature and designs with metallic flecks to exotic, heavy-veined looks that add drama to the kitchen.

  • Color, too, is on the rise, especially whites with the countertop frequently being used as a visual focal point for the space.

  • The look and feel of natural stone is still a popular choice amongst the consumers such as granite, marble and limestone. Thick laminated edge treatments are also a fast moving trend.

  • Recycled materials such as glass, wood, stainless steel remain hot choices, and the industry is increasingly becoming more aware not only of the percent of recycled content in a surfacing choice, but also of how green the manufacturing processes are in the creation of those products.

  • While value is still very important, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be inexpensive; rather that the right countertop material should deliver the style you’re looking to achieve while staying within your budget.  The product’s quality, performance and sustainability are just as important as price in achieving value.

The  marble kitchen countertops shown below depicts two of the popular trends in countertops today, the color white and the thick laminated edges.

10 Tips on How to Select the Right Stone Contractor

Posted on July 24, 2012 By marblex

There are so many stone fabricators in the Washington Metropolitan Area that it could be quite overwhelming and difficult to choose the right one. The Marble Institute of America (MIA) has some advice on “How to Select a Natural Stone Contractor:

1.  First, look at the list of MIA Accredited Companies. If there isn’t an accredited company near you, consult MIA    membership list for qualified natural stone professionals who have been approved for membership based on industry skill and commitment to service. MIA members abide by the MIA Code of Ethics. Look for the seal!

2.  Ask family, friends, and neighbors for referrals and call local stone/tile suppliers for recommendations.

3.  After you have identified several contractors, schedule appointments for estimates. Most will be free, but confirm in advance.

4.  During your estimate, describe the “look” you’d like to achieve and ask questions.

5.  Evaluate your quotes, request references, and check them. Ask to see examples of other projects recently completed by the contractor.

6.  Request proof of liability and workers ‘compensation insurance.

7.  Select a contractor you believe is skilled and trustworthy, and with whom you feel comfortable. Make sure everything you and your contractor agree to is included in your contract. Don’t sign anything until you understand and agree with all the terms.

8.  Plan your project carefully, and then keep the lines of communication open with your contractor throughout the project. Keep a job file of all important documentation.

9.  Ask your contractor to estimate a realistic time frame for the job and plan accordingly.

10.  Arrange for periodic inspections with your contractor to ensure that the work is being performed to achieve the desired end result.

“A Heartfelt Thank You”

Posted on July 13, 2012 By marblex

We would like to share a client’s recent experience, which summarizes what Marblex is all about.

Dear Christina and Marblex Staff:

Thank you! That statement sounds so simple, but encompasses so much sincere appreciation! It’s a heartfelt “thank you” for making our experience with Marblex such a pleasant one, and for the one-of-a-kind, special, and very professional services provided.

From our initial phone call of inquiry to your office, right down to accepting delivery of our unique dresser-top (with the help and interest of four employees as they lovingly placed the piece in our vehicle), you and your staff of true professionals made us feel as if we were your only clients!

Not knowing what we were even looking for in terms of just the “right” stone for our antique dresser, you made that search a successful and pleasant one. Your knowledge, expertise, genuine interest and patience in helping us was so very apparent and valuable–we couldn’t have done it without you! We’d be remiss for not specifically mentioning, too, that the input from another member of your organization, “Mert”, was key in making our final selection, so we thank you both!

Additionally, the dedication, work-ethic, and true craftsmanship that very obviously went into finishing the top, was outstanding and exemplary of the quality of the products and workmanship you provide, as evidenced in your showroom alone. In the grand scheme of things, I’m sure that our request was quite small, but you never made us feel that way–quite the opposite. Your kindness, patience, and very valuable assistance made what was a rather small purchase seem very important. We were treated with such warmth, and you and your entire staff showed us respect and genuine interest, making us feel very special. The end-result is a finished product of “museum-quality”, and one that we will care for, proudly display, and share with many others. You’ve made this small dresser a piece that will be lovingly handed down, generation to generation.

Christina, Marblex and its employees exemplify the finest, Old-World quality of workmanship, professionalism, and sincere courtesy just not found in many establishments these days. You all have made us extremely happy, and we will gladly share our experiences with many others. God bless you for all what you did for us.

Sincerely,

Janet and Ray Meisels
