Natural Quartz Products
NATURAL STONE GUIDE — Natural Quartz Products
Natural quartz surfaces, sometimes called “engineered stone,” are the result of modern manufacturing processes. Having been around for about twenty years now, natural quartz surfaces come in a wide variety of colors, thicknesses, and trade names.
Quartz products are typically made out of 93% quartz, 7% colorpigments and resin. There are many Quartz manufacturers around the world. In the United States, it is Cambria. In Israel, it is Caserstone. Other products like Silestone, Technistone, and Zodiaq are all made in other countries.
Note: Cambria is the only quartz product made in the US, specifically Minnesota.
Essentially, varying types of quartz stones are mixed with pigments and resins and fed through a very extensive reformation process. The materials are heated under pressure, forming consistent slabs from batch to batch. Because the slab material is 93% quartz, it is extremely hard, and consequently very durable.
In addition, natural quartz products are all made the same way, so they are all given ratings by the National Sanitary Foundation (NSF) and Greenguard.
Quartz products are extremely durable, chemical-resistant, and non-absorbent, and maintenance free.
